Meg Rosoff

Last night I went along to 'True Stories Told Live' where I bumped into the author Meg Rosoff, whose novel 'The Bride's Farewell,' is on the Carnegie list this year.

I read this novel a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. It is a historical novel, telling the story of Pell Ridley, who runs away on the morning of her wedding, as she cannot face living a life like her mother's, who is in an abusive marriage and has many children to look after, with very little income. Pell sets off for the Salisbury horse fair and the novel details her attempts at survival and to find what she wants in life. Pell is a great character, full of determination to survive and she meets lots of other interesting characters along the way.
